As people start benchmarking the new iMacs on Geekbench, the new new Sandy Bridge systems are showing pretty strong results coming in near the Mac Pros released last year and significantly above the speedy Sandy Bridge MacBook Pros released earlier this year. To give an idea where it falls, here is a bit of Geekbench’s normalized results for Mac systems: Macworld also benchmarked a new 3.1 GHz Core i5 27-inch iMac and found it to be the fastest iMac ever tested with the Speedmark 6....

As noted by MacRumors, Apple is getting ready to launch the third-generation iPad in 30 additional countries this month beginning with 23 countries on May 11. Among the countries included in this Friday’s launch is Brazil, where Apple currently assembles some of its iPad 2 and iPhone 4 units at a Foxconn plant in Jundiai. China is still not included in this month’s international roll out. All countries receiving the iPad on May 11 include: Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Malta, Martinique, Mauritius, Morocco, Peru, Taiwan, Tunisia, and Vietnam....

After Niantic’s Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago turned into something of a disaster – with many attendees unable to use the game at all, and others unable to login or suffering crashes – the company has laid most of the blame at the feet of carriers … Niantic says in a blog post that unspecified ‘technical issues’ on its own server were responsible for some of the issues, and it was able to resolve these with a configuration change....

Nvidia is coming clean with Dell, HP and Apple owners who purchased some of the Laptops with discrete GPU “bumps” that sometimes caused failure. Apple went to extraordinary lengths (far beyond Dell or HP), covering Macbook Pros affected with these issues for up to three years and issuing refunds to those who paid for repairs. If you purchased a MacBook Pro from May 2007 – September 2008, you are likely covered by the settlement....

The images released by NASA include a “selfie” of JWST completing the “fine phasing” alignment of its 18 hexagonal mirrors to act as a single mirror, and images of a single star and the galaxies and stars behind it. “We have fully aligned and focused the telescope on a star, and the performance is beating specifications. We are excited about what this means for science,” NASA Goddard deputy optical telescope element manager for Webb said....

One notable provider missing in Apple’s TV app integration is Netflix. While you can still search for content from Netflix within the app, it will not keep track of watching history or suggest content for the Up Next feature. The company will be distancing itself from Apple even more soon. According to a report from VentureBeat, Netflix will soon be removing the option for billing via iTunes for new users. This means that new users wanting to sign up for the service on iOS will be redirected to Safari to subscribe....

Netflix has released the full-length trailer for Anne, the TV adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne Shirley novels. Montgomery published the first Anne novel, “Anne of Green Gables”, in 1908 and went on to write nine books total revolving around the characters (as well as their descendants) introduced during “Green Gables”; that includes, the posthumously published “The Blythes Are Quoted”, in 2009. The Anne stories have since been adapted multiple times over in different mediums, including live-action film, television miniseries, stage productions and even as a kid-friendly PBS program (Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series) in the 2000s....

A new feature in Apple’s iOS 8 software might make it easier for users to track down missing or stolen devices. The setting seen above can be found in the Find My iPhone panel of the device’s iCloud settings, and enables the phone to automatically send its last known location to Apple’s iCloud service if the phone’s battery is almost dead. The data will apparently be stored for 24 hours after the phone’s battery dies, so even if the phone is no longer turned on users can at least have some idea of where it was active....

Apple is rumored to introduce a new product called AirTag, which is basically a Tile competitor that will let users track any objects through the Find My network. Although we don’t know when the AirTags will be unveiled, the leaker Fudge shared today on Twitter an image that shows an alleged AirTag carrying accessory designed by Apple to work with AirTags. Based on the image, the accessory looks like a small leather sleeve for AirTags, as users might be able to easily place them within the leather cover....

Apple Watch Activity Challenges increase awareness about fitness features and healthy living while observing holidays and more. In exchanging for completing a workout challenge, participants earn virtual achievements in the Activity app on the iPhone as well as special sticker packs for iMessage and FaceTime. The fitness challenge for the next Apple Watch Activity Challenge is unchanged from the Veterans Day Activity Challenge last year: complete a single workout with the Apple Watch for at least 11 minutes on November 11th....

The full Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer may not arrive until after Avengers: Endgame, potentially due to spoilers and Sony’s marketing plan. For a few years now, Marvel Studios has released three entries in their Marvel Cinematic Universe over the course of each calendar year. Now, 2019 won’t be any different, with Captain Marvel already in theaters, Avengers: Endgame debuting next month and Spider-Man: Far From Home arriving in July. Endgame is arguably the most highly anticipated film of the three, since it will pick up from the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War and close out Phase 3 of the MCU....

The bright minds behind this project are Andrew Huang and Sean Cross, who spent over a year working on the Novena laptop. Huang is widely credited as the man who broke open the original Xbox. Since the laptops and all the instructions are aimed at a small number of buyers, they aren’t exactly cheap. Just the Novena board will cost you $500 and ships November this year while a pledge of $1,995 to the Novena campaign at Crowd Supply will land you a laptop with an estimated shipment deadline in January, 2015....

The report sent Nutanix shares slightly higher in late trading. In a call with ZDNet following the report, CEO Rajiv Ramaswami said that despite macroeconomic challenges such as multi-decade highs in inflation, companies are not backing down from their spending on cloud computing. “Companies are not stopping their efforts toward going digital,” said Ramaswami. “They continue investing in modernizing their infrastructure to get to a cloud operating model.” Companies are showing “an increased focus on attracting talent,” he said....
