The Nintendo Switch Online service is about to receive twenty different games from the Super Nintendo, which subscribers can download from tomorrow.
The Nintendo Switch is the first Nintendo system to require a paid subscription to use its online multiplayer modes. The Nintendo Switch Online service launched in September 2018 with twenty Nintendo Entertainment System games at launch, and subscribers have been receiving a handful of new titles each month. The quality of the games quickly diminished once the first-party Nintendo games started to dry up and fans have eagerly been awaiting the addition of Super Nintendo games to the service.
The fans have been asking when Super Nintendo games will come to the Switch and the wait will soon be over, as it was confirmed during today’s Nintendo Direct that twenty Super Nintendo games will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers on September 5. The Super Nintendo games will have both local and online play, with the rewind feature from the Nintendo Entertainment System games being available from launch. Here’s the full list of twenty games that have been revealed so far:
- Brawl Brothers Breath of Fire Demon’s Crest F-ZERO Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics Kirby’s Dream Course Kirby’s Dream Land 3 Pilotwings Star Fox Stunt Race FX Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts Super Mario Kart Super Mario World Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island Super Metroid Super Puyo Puyo 2 Super Soccer Super Tennis The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
It’s not just Super Nintendo games that are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service, as subscribers can purchase Super Nintendo controllers that are compatible with the system. The controllers can only be purchased by Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and they cost $29.99 each. The existence of the controllers had been leaked via a patent for Super Nintendo controllers that was discovered last month.
It was also mentioned during the Nintendo Direct that more Super Nintendo games will be coming in the future, though the frequency of the arrival of these new titles wasn’t specified. It’s possible that Nintendo will use the same process as it has been using for the past year and will give out two or three new games a month. The fans have complained about the lackluster selection of titles available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, to the point where Nintendo was hinting at expanding the library of games, but it’s hard to complain now. The Nintendo Switch Online service now has a killers row of Super Nintendo games and it’s difficult to argue about paying twenty dollars a year for access to them, as well as all of the Nintendo Entertainment System games that are also available now on the Nintendo Switch.
