Warning: Minor SPOILERS for Nightwing #65
The bullet to Nightwing’s brain may not have been fatal, but it’s still tearing apart Dick Grayson’s life months later. He may have tried to use his amnesia to officially quit as Nightwing, and get out of the family business. But now that his grandfather has come to recruit him as the next Talon, loyal servant of the Court of Owls, Dick may end up wishing he hasn’t pushed the Batman family away so quickly.
The fact that Ric Grayson doesn’t actually remember his days as a circus performer, Batman’s sidekick, a member of the Teen Titans, or his adult life as Nightwing is finally costing him. Over the previous issues, William Cobb a.k.a. Talon a.k.a. Dick’s grandfather has been able to observe, assess, and even speak directly to his ‘heir’ without the slightest bit of suspicion. Now that DC has released the official preview of Nightwing #65, the path to Dick Grayson becoming the next Talon is getting a whole lot clearer.
Dick already dealt with William Cobb and the truth about his family legacy, but those memories (like almost all of others) are now erased in place of the new Ric Grayson. So with Cobb having already put one of the new team of Nightwings into critical condition just to send his grandson a message, he has now kidnapped Ric’s lady friend, Bea. Grayson’s spirit hasn’t gotten any weaker with his brain injury, but there’s no denying that with virtually no knowledge of who or what Talon is, or what he wants, Dick is not ready for this fight. Fans can check out the Grayson/Talon fight for themselves in the preview pages below, courtesy of 13th Dimension:
The fans will get to see how the rest of this battle is decided, since it will apparently be taking Dick into the role of Talon sooner rather than later. The solicitation details for Nightwing #67 confirm Dick will take up the title. But will he serve the same Court of Owls as before? Or is his grandfather in pursuit of a more family-specific legacy to pass on to Dick as the prophesied Gray Son of Gotham?
