DC Universe’s Titans star Brenton Thwaites teases the new costume he’s getting in season 2, hinting he’ll finally suit up as Nightwing. Titans season 1 premiered on DC Universe last fall, introducing fans of the DC Comics to the first live-action version of the Teen Titans team. The TV series stars Thwaites as Dick Grayson, who’s distanced himself from acting as Batman’s sidekick despite still wearing his Robin suit to fight crime. He’s joined by Rachel Roth aka. Raven (Teagan Croft), Kory Anders aka. Starfire (Anna Diop) and Gar Logan aka. Beast Boy (Ryan Potter). The Titans season 1 finale saw Dick trapped in a dream reality by Rachel’s father, the demon Trigon (Seamus Dever).
Throughout season 1, Dick’s character arc saw him evolve from a violent vigilante still wearing the Robin suit to a different kind of hero that doesn’t employ as much deadly force as Batman. In the middle of the season, Dick even destroys his Robin suit, and comes face to face with the new Robin, Jason Todd (Curran Walters). The season 1 finale further developed Dick’s relationship to Bruce Wayne aka. Batman, and that will continue to be explored in Titans season 2. It seems Dick will also get a new suit to replace the Robin one he destroyed.
Speaking to Red Carpet Report, Thwaites was asked if he has a new Nightwing costume in season 2. The actor initially denied it, saying, “I don’t know if I have a new one.” But then changed his answer and confirmed he has a new costume, saying he can’t wait to try it on. Thwaites said:
Based on the vagueness of Thwaites’ comment it’s unclear if he’s confirming that Dick will don a Nightwing costume in Titans season 2 or simply that the character gets a new costume in general. However, it makes more sense for Dick to get a Nightwing costume than for him to wear another Robin suit, especially since Jason Todd is the current Robin. Fans will get to see more of Dick interacting with his Bat-family in Titans season 2, with Iain Glen portraying Bruce Wayne and Jason Todd actor Walters promoted to a series regular. Dick suiting up as Nightwing makes sense as the next step in his journey, but it remains to be seen if that’s the costume to which Thwaites is referring and, if it is, when it will appear in season 2.
Yes, I have a new one. I haven’t tried it on yet so I’m anticipating the day that I get to try that on and see how it looks, see how it fits, see if I can move in it. I probably can.
Aside from Dick’s potential evolution into Nightwing, Titans season 2 has plenty in store for fans. The Titans season 1 finale post-credits scene introduced Conner Kent aka. Superboy (Joshua Orpin), who officially joins the show along with his superhero dog Krypto. In addition to Trigon, Titans season 2 introduces Deathstroke (Esai Morales) as a major villain on the DC Universe TV show, along with his daughter Ravager (Chelsea Zhang) and son Jericho (Chella Man). It’s clear that Titans season 2 is diving deeper into the DC Comics lore for the story, introducing characters to flesh out this world more than it was in season 1. But first, the initial episodes of Titans season 2 will need to resolve the storyline in which Trigon split the Titans team apart, ending on a major cliffhanger.
