Jessica Simpson thanked ex-husband Nick Lachey and his wife Vanessa Lachey for sending her a gift after the birth of a child. However, in an awkward interview, the couple denies ever sending one to her. While Simpson is doing her press tour for her new memoir, ex-husband, Nick and his wife Vanessa are making a press stop of their own for the reality TV show they’re hosting, Love is Blind. 

Simpson met her future husband when Lachey worked on one of Jessica’s music videos in 1999 after being introduced at a Christmas party in 1998. For fans, the matchup of the two was “Irresistible” and thrust the two into the spotlight. In the summer of 2003, MTV aired Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which starred Nick Lachey and his then-wife Simpson to rave reviews. The couple married in 2002 and by 2005, they announced they were divorcing. After the release of Simpson’s tell-all memoir, Open Book, Lachey has been in the news lately for his previous marriage.

While on the Today Show, the couple spoke with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Busch Hager but things turned awkward when Simpson was brought up in conversation. Kotb mentioned to the couple that she had just finished her interview with the “Without You” singer and that Simpson had told Kotb that she was really good terms with the couple. The singer even made note of a beautiful baby gift that was sent to her by Nick and Vanessa. Kotb said that Simpson mentioned the gesture once or twice. Nick started to speak but before words left his mouth Vanessa interrupted with a confused look, saying she wanted to go back to the gift issue instead of letting it slide.

Vanessa apologized but continued to say “it wasn’t us” that sent her a gift. She did joke to the cameras saying thank you to whoever did send a gift on their behalf. The whole studio looked confused and an uncomfortable feeling hung in the air. Kotb, to her credit, tried to retell the story saying that the couple must have gotten her some gift at an important moment in her life as she thought it was sweet. Vanessa doubled down and even told the morning show host that she does not have Simpson’s address.

Fans were left just as confused as Kotb during the interview and are hoping that Simpson just misremembered who delivered the special gift. While there seems to be a misunderstanding between the couple and the singer, fans are excited to get all the details in Simpson’s new book and to see the Lacheys on Love is Blind.
