Nick Jonas is replacing Adam Levine on The Voice. The singer will have big shoes to fill thanks to Levine’s sense of humor and ear for new talent.
Carson Daly, who is the host of The Voice, broke the news on May 24 that Levine would not be returning to the 17th season of the show. Levine was one of the founding judges and was well-liked by fans - mainly for his relationship with Blake Shelton. The two would constantly banter back and forth, showing a mix of humor and competitive spirit.
As one coach leaves, another shall appear… Thanks to Adam Levine leaving the popular singing show in May, Nick Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, had been kind enough to fill the vacant seat. Comedian Ellen DeGeneres spilled the beans in a tweet on October 7 that showed the three brothers being interviewed. Jonas will also be replacing Gwen Stefani who was nice enough to take over when Levine originally departed. He will sit alongside Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend. The Jonas brother gushed about how excited he was to join the all-star cast, saying he was honored to have been considered.
DeGeneres had previously recorded Jonas’s new colleagues with their first impression on him joining the team. First to speak was Shelton, the O.G. of the show who has been on it since it first aired in 2011. He went on to congratulate the young singer and then voiced his “concerns.” The country singer joked that Jonas may not be old enough to be a judge on the show and he is sure he will get his butt kicked in the competition. American Idol winner Clarkson believes that the two should team up and work together since both are fellow Texans, while Legend graciously welcomed the “Sucker” singer, saying that their mission was to “destroy Blake Shelton.”
Jonas was left to ponder his fellow judges’ words and agreed that Clarkson may have a point about forming an alliance on The Voice. He even winked when saying that he and Legend will have to have a secret conversation. Clearly, they all have it out for Shelton. For Jonas, having a 20-year-long career will be an asset when it comes to picking out the next best talent.
