A brand new portable Nintendo Switch Dock is taking Kickstarter by storm. Obviously, Nintendo Switch owners are enthusiastic about bringing their portable console with them wherever they go. However, due to the make of the Nintendo Switch’s current dock, it’s not really the most optimal device to take on the go. It can’t fit in your pocket, that’s for sure, and carrying all of those additional wires and an adapter on top of the dock can prove to be problematic.
Sometimes, even if Switch owners have their console with them, it’s not very comfortable using it in Handheld Mode. Video games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are better played on a GameCube or Pro Controller and most hardcore players tend to prefer more competitive titles on a larger screen. While the Nintendo Switch provides the best handheld-console experience on the market, it does have a couple of pitfalls that some players have issues with.
According to Polygon, the team over at Human Things seeks to eliminate many of those issues players who want to play portably on the Nintendo Switch have. Their new GENKI: Covert Dock is exactly what it’s called: covert. The new dock can fit in the palm of anyone’s hand or can be carried around in a pocket with ease. Compared to the conventional dock, the GENKI: Covert Dock is 10 times smaller. It also happens to be cheaper at $50 as opposed to the Switch Dock and adapter retailing for around $86. According to the team, the dock has been designed with care and safety in mind, taking into account many of the issues third-party docks run into.
The GENKI: Covert Dock includes a USB 3.1 accessory port, USB-C charging, and an HDMI port for the TV. Thankfully, the device also includes foldable prongs that won’t get caught on anything or make carrying it around uncomfortable. The Covert Dock’s overall look has been taken into consideration as well; its design is similar to that of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, making it a great accessory to have with all the other Switch peripherals. Travelers will also be able to charge and use a multitude of other devices that are supported by the port offerings. Additionally, the GENKI: Covert Dock will support wired third-party controllers, as well as GameCube controllers.
Of course, carrying wires around is another problem in and of itself, but it’s never too difficult these days to find an HDMI plugged into any modern-day television. With that in mind, players will need a USB-C to USB-C cable, but those are a lot easier to carry than the entire Switch Dock and power adapter. Other third-parties have tried to create a more minuscule Switch Dock, but they haven’t always proved to be the most reliable or long-lasting. The GENKI: Covert Dock is still on Kickstarter now and won’t be shipped until December. The campaign has already soared past its $50,000 goal and sits at over $240,000 right now.
