Another trailer has been released for the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Death Stranding, once again offering a strange, confusing look at the title’s package delivery action strand gameplay. Developed by Kojima Productions and slated for release on November 8th, 2019, new details about Death Stranding have often provided players with just as many questions as they do answers, from the recent information that the game’s pod babies can be heard via the PS4 controller to Hideo Kojima relating Death Stranding’s multiplayer to Into the Spider-Verse.
Just a few days ago it was announced Death Stranding has gone gold, meaning the game’s development has been completed and it’s ready to be mass produced and shipped to retailers. While Kojima celebrates on Twitter, it seems like Sony isn’t ready to let the hype train slow down just yet, releasing yet another trailer for the game just a month after a different 49-minute Death Stranding trailer was shown at TGS.
What little is known of Death Stranding’s plot involves Sam traveling across a post-apocalyptic United States from settlement to settlement in order to help “reconnect the strands” of the people who live there. The title of this trailer is The Drop, which could be inferred as either a term for a delivery, as a reference to the literal dropping of the case done in the video, or the proverbial mic drop which occurs when the creature at the end is revealed. Knowing Kojima’s propensity for naming, it’s likely a combination of all three.
This trailer is more action-oriented than some of the earlier videos released by Kojima Productions, perhaps due to criticisms that the game was beginning to resemble a walking simulator and reports stating Death Stranding doesn’t get fun until the second half. Although the game will offer a special cinematic-style easy mode for players who do not want to bother with difficulty, many fans of the Metal Gear Solid series are assuredly hoping for a grand return to the innovative gameplay systems which made Kojima famous in the first place. Showing off chase sequences and fancy gadgets, like Sam’s gun here, is a great way to remind those fans there will be something in Death Stranding for them too when it releases next month.
