Will Ragnarok season 2 on Netflix could happen. And if it does, when will it release, and what will it be about? Based on Norse mythology, Ragnarok season 1 was written by Adam Price and directed by Mogens Hagedorn, with the storyline following a teenager who possesses the powers of Thor. Ragnarok season 1 released in January 2020.
Ragnarok season 1 on Netflix stars David Stakston as Magne, a teenager who moves to the fictional town of Edda in Norway. At school, Magne learns about his privileged classmates, Fjor (Herman Tømmeraas) and Saxa (Theresa Frostad Eggesbø) Jutul, the children of wealthy locals, Vidar (Gísli Örn Garðarsson) and wife Ran (the school headmaster, portrayed by Synnøve Macody Lund). When a young environmentalist dies after spotting a mysterious tunnel, Magne seeks answers and then learns that he’s not like other teenagers. Unfortunately, most of the Edda locals believe that Magne has severe mental health problems, if only because he claims to have physical abilities that would make him a god rather than a regular Norwegian teenager.
In the penultimate episode of Ragnarok season 1, Magne locates the evidence he needs to expose a conspiracy involving Jutul Industries. But just when Modern Thor is ready to save the day, he’s diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. Here’s what to expect from Ragnarok season 2 on Netflix.
Netflix’s Ragnarok Season 2 Renewal
Netflix hasn’t yet ordered Ragnarok season 2. If the streaming service does greenlight a second installment, the announcement will most likely be made by the end of winter 2020. Netflix typically waits three-to-six weeks after new season premieres before making renewals. Critic reviews have been harsh for Ragnarok season 1. But even if the series hasn’t been well-received within Norway and elsewhere, it’s certainly possibly that Netflix subscribers will binge-watch the six episodes from beginning to end, thus hitting the mark for how Netflix’s measures viewing figures.
Netflix’s Ragnarok Season 2 Release Date
If Netflix orders Ragnarok season 2, six new episodes will theoretically be produced later this year. So, fans can expect Ragnarok season 2 to release around January 2021. If Netflix maintains a similar release schedule, Ragnarok season 2 will premiere in late January or early February next year.
Netflix’s Ragnarok Season 2 Story Details
The Ragnarok season 1 finale builds to the inevitable showdown between Magne and Vidar. In the previous episodes, the young god kills the Jutul family dog and subsequently receives a psychiatric evaluation because of his erratic behavior. But Magne is redeemed when he locates Vidar’s 2500 barrels of toxic cadmium, and plants a few in front police headquarters. Ultimately, Magne fends off Vidar’s attack and brings a thunder bolt down from the heavens, one that knocks out both God and Giant.
Ragnarok season 2 will undoubtedly expand the story and this universe. The first six episodes detail Magne’s origin story, all the while teasing future storylines for side characters that connect to Thor mythology. Conceptually, Ragnarok season 2 will continue a timely storyline about climate change, but will also draw inspiration from Old World concepts for dramatic purposes. In Ragnarok season 1, the final dialogue from the character Wenche implies that Magne is just starting to learn how he can change the world. As for Ragnarok season 2, though, it’s Netflix that wields the most power right now.
