A new announcement video confirms that Netflix has renewed the critically acclaimed series On My Block for season 3. The inner-city coming-of-age dramedy has been picking up steam on the streaming giant after it became one of the most binged shows on the platform and hooked viewers with a pair of cliffhanger endings that left some of the characters’ fates in question, as well as the dramatic death of a major character who has been around from the very beginning.
As a way of garnering attention for an already well-liked series, the use of cliffhangers (at least partially) has proven useful in terms of On My Block avoiding the same fate as so many other Netflix original series as of late. Online fan engagement is certainly one way to gauge the popularity of some of Netflix’s offerings, and like so many successful save-our-show campaigns, this one seems to have played at least a small part in letting the powers that be at the streaming service that those who binge would really like to binge another season of On My Block.

It’s fitting, then, that Netflix would announce the show’s season 3 renewal with an Instagram video that begins with various requests on social media for more from Ruby (Jason Geno), Cesar (Diego Tinoco), Jamal (Brett Gray), and Monse (Sierra Caprí). Check out the season 3 renewal announcement video, along with a brief synopsis of the show below:
With its diverse cast and setting, On My Block is a welcome addition to Netflix’s line-up of original content. But it’s also proving to be an impressive success story, particularly in the wake of Netflix’s unceremonious cancelations of One Day at a Time, Friends From College, and Santa Clarita Diet, all of which featured big stars (and likely, big paydays), but were nonetheless unable to save themselves from the proverbial chopping block. As far as renewal news goes, this one is sure to brighten the day of many Netflix subscribers/
“On My Block, co-created by Lauren Iungerich (Awkward) and Eddie Gonzalez & Jeremy Haft (All Eyez On Me), is a coming of age comedy about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high-school set in the rough inner city.”
