October has come and gone, but not without bringing more content to Netflix, and November is arriving in full force with some highly anticipated series and movies. November might be a tough month for Netflix with the arrival of what’s considered by many as its biggest threat: Disney+. Luckily, one of Netflix’s strengths is that it adds new content to its catalog every week, and many of its original series already have a solid fanbase.
October didn’t bring as much spooky content as some were probably expecting, but it did have a good dose of scares with Eli and the second season of Haunted, as well as some more family-friendly titles (The Last Kids On Earth) and others more comedy oriented (Daybreak). The final week of October and the first days of November have some interesting titles to offer: on the licensed content side of things, Netflix is adding movies like Raging Bull, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Grease, and all Matrix movies.
As for original content, viewers will have the chance to enjoy a drama movie based on a Broadway play, the third season of a coming-of-age series, the Fab Five’s adventures on the other side of the world, and a period drama that promises some great performances. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this week - November 1.
American Son
Directed by Kenny Leon, American Son is a drama movie based on the Broadway play of the same name. It follows Kendra Ellis-Connor (Kerry Washington) and Scott Connor (Steven Pasquale), an estranged couple that reunite to look for answers regarding the disappearance of their 18-year-old son, Jamal. American Son explores themes like race and gender and how these (sadly) influence police procedure.
Atypical - season 3
Atypical is back with its third season, and hopefully the team behind this series learned from the criticism of the previous seasons. Atypical focuses on the life of 18-year-old Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), who is on the autism spectrum. The series has been criticized for its inaccurate perception of autism and lack of autistic actors, which changed in the second season. Atypical season 3 will follow Sam on a new chapter in his life: college. Meanwhile, his parents will try to fix their relationship, and Cassey will continue on her journey of discovery.
Queer Eye: We’re In Japan!
The Fab Five are taking their talents and expertise to the other side of the world in this four-episode special. Queer Eye: We’re In Japan! will follow Tan, Karamo, Antoni, Bobby, and Jonathan on a journey to connect cultures and change lives in the process, all with the passion and heart that has made the series a big success. This special “season” will definitely make the wait for season 5 more bearable.
The King
David Michôd’s historical drama is finally available on streaming after getting a limited theatrical release on October 11. The King is based on several history plays from William Shakespeare and follows Hal (Timothée Chalamet), a wayward prince who is crowned King Henry V after the death of his tyrannical father. The new king will now have to deal with politics, the war his father left behind, and some demons from his past. Also starring are Joel Edgerton, Robert Pattinson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Ben Mendelsohn.
