This weekend, Netflix is bringing new content for all ages, with two comedy series, an animated one, and the highly anticipated second season of a comedy-drama series. The world of streaming continues offering a variety of content through different platforms, but even though there’s a lot of competition now, life at Netflix continues it course quite smoothly with new movies and TV shows added every week.
Last week, the platform added movies like The Tourist and The Evil Dead, as well as new content with the documentary series Cheer, the drama series AJ and the Queen, and the comedy series Medical Police. This week’s new additions include the drama The Last Face, the comedy Get Him To The Greek, the animated movie Hop, the satirical crime movie The Bling Ring, and a double dose of Tom Hardy with Legend.
As for original content, Netflix is bringing a comedy series that addresses mental health, an animated series aimed for children (but it’s actually for everyone), a new season of the platform’s longest running comedy series, and the second season of a critically acclaimed series. The Healing Powers of Dude
Netflix’s The Healing Powers of Dude is a comedy series that follows Noah Ferris (Jace Chapman), a 11-year-old boy struggling with social anxiety disorder who gets an emotional support dog named Dude who accompanies him to school – and it’s the first time Noah attends a public school, as he has been homeschooled for years. Noah’s struggles are supported by voice-overs from Dude himself (thanks to Steve Zahn), which add a touch of comedy while also helping the audience understand what Noah’s going through a bit better.
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts
A new animated series from DreamWorks Animation has arrived on Netflix this weekend. Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts follows 13-year-old Kipo (Karen Fukuhara), an enthusiastic and curious girl who leaves her underground city to explore a post-apocalyptic wasteland ruled by sentient mutant animals called “mutes”. Kipo will come across with other humans and together they will navigate through the dangers of the surface world.
Grace & Frankie - season 6
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are back with the penultimate season of Grace & Frankie, the longest-running Netflix original series. Grace & Frankie follows retired cosmetics mogul Grace (Fonda) and hippie art teacher Frankie (Tomlin) whose husbands are successful divorce lawyers… who fall in love with each other. Grace and Frankie, who never really liked each other, bond over their failed marriages and learn how to cope with difficulties together. Season 6 will explore Grace’s new marriage, how Frankie deals with it, and their attempts to enter the business world with elderly-friendly furniture.
Sex Education - season 2
Season 2 of Sex Education is finally on Netflix this weekend, a year after season 1’s release. Sex Education season 2 will follow Otis (Asa Butterfield), who after securing a relationship with Ola (Patricia Allison), begins to feel the pressure of a high school romance. To make matters worse, new students arrive to challenge the status quo at Moordale High, and a chlamydia outbreak further highlights the school’s need for better sex education. All of this, of course, with the series’ peculiar sense of humor and zero shame.
