In an act that will either save it or be its grand finale, MoviePass announced today that it will revert to its $9.95/month plan, but limit customers to just three movies per month. The development comes just a few days after the service confirmed plans to increase the price to $14.95/month and impose more limitations on what movies can be viewed and when....
He’s giving Verizon a 70% shot at getting the iPhone in 2010. The chances are probably much lower than that, even though we’ve heard Apple and Verizon had been talking since 2007. These agreements, when signed, are thought out waaay in advance and you only have to look at the commercials currently on TV to see Verizon and Apple aren’t building for an alliance. Previously working at Billboard, Complex, XXL and Vibe, music journalist Alex Gale will be leading Apple’s editorial group for Apple Music, according to Variety. Gale will be working out of Apple’s Los Angeles offices. He starts on February 5, and reports to Jen Robbins, who is director of management and editorials at Apple. His main focus will be on Apple Music and iTunes content, but will also be working with video projects, and Beats 1....

Netflix’s new thriller Earthquake Bird, sets up the mystery of who killed Lily Bridges - and the ending appears to answer that question (with some room left for doubt). The latest film from director Wash Westmoreland, of 2018’s Collette and 2014’s Still Alice, is a dour mystery-drama about a woman who seems haunted by an unending stream of death all around her. Split between a police interrogation and the events leading up to the investigation, the movie finds no easy conclusions amid a person’s disappearance and the people that surrounded her....
Netflix is leading the teen rom-com movie renaissance with a slate of Originals that capture the nostalgia of the genre’s Golden Age (the 80s, 90s and early 00s) and repackage it for a modern audience. They might be adapted from YA novels or Wattpadd favorites and they might follow a central couple or feature several intertwining love stories. Some, such as To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (one of the best streaming movies of the decade), have achieved cult status already....
Disney is ramping up publicity for their upcoming live-action movie Aladdin, with clips now available to view online. This comes after the trailers have already shown fans what they are in store for when Aladdin comes to the big screen this month. Fans will be delighted to see some of their favourite characters coming to life in the excerpts that feature Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and Genie. Unlike a trailer, these clips are taken straight from the movie, giving fans a chance to whet their appetite even more for the much-anticipated live-action remake....

Nielsen released smartphone purchasing data yesterday that depicted Apple grabbing more than a third of the total smartphone market in the most recently surveyed month. Android was over 50 percent. That is almost 85 percent of the market together, which is a striking number (and over 90 percent in the last three months). But, you would not know it when looking at Nielsen’s graph: RIM at 9 percent seems to have almost the same share as Apple....

Netflix today announced that it is updating its parental controls to create more detailed protection for young viewers. The service is also adding clearer maturity level rating labels to its content. First up is the service expanding the existing PIN feature to let parents restrict individual movies, shows, and series. As my colleague Benjamin mentioned, this may be seen as a hassle by many users to apply limits on an individual basis, but Netflix sees it as an important step nonetheless....
