Firefox may be waning in popularity as a desktop browser, but development team Mozilla is pushing ahead to release a version of the software for iOS devices. In a new survey discovered by TechCrunch, the company reveals that it’s currently searching for people who can beta test the upcoming app. Just about anyone can sign up for the beta, though Mozilla hasn’t made it clear how many people will be chosen, or when the selection process will start....

MTV’s Punk’d is making a comeback with Chance the Rapper slated to host the reality series. Created by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, Punk’d premiered in 2003 and ran for a successful 10 seasons on MTV. Hosted by Kutcher, Punk’d created an enticing formula as a hidden-camera practical joke show featuring unsuspecting celebrities. Striking a resemblance to classic hidden camera show, Candid Camera, Punk’d scored a massive following with a younger generation tuning in to witness the titular elaborate pranks (including fake dead bodies, unpaid taxes, and stolen cars) pulled on Hollywood’s finest....

In September, NBN announced it would be looking to spend AU$4.5 billion to have 75% of its fixed-line network be able to receive 1Gbps speeds by the end of 2023, by offering on-demand upgrades to those on fibre-to-the-node (FttN) connections that wanted higher speeds. NBN said on Tuesday in its second round of consultation that it was still planning for 100Mbps to be the trigger for FttN connections to be upgraded....

Netflix generated an all-time high record income from mobile devices, earning $86.6 million dollars this past November. That figure is up 77% from last November YoY, in which the company earned just $49 million in estimated mobile revenue, reports TechCrunch. The numbers were provided by Sensor Tower, a data app intelligence firm who has had insight on similar matters in the past. The report further states that previously, Netflix’s most successful mobile month was July 2018, in which they grossed an estimated $84....

Sebastien Vachon-Desjardins, a Canadian citizen, received the Canadian prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to five charges related to “theft of computer data, extortion, the payment of cryptocurrency ransoms, and participating in the activities of a criminal organisation”. The charges in Canada were for Vachon-Desjardins’s involvement in 17 ransomware attacks that caused at least $2.8 million in damages. He also received an additional 54-month sentence in Canada for trafficking drugs in Quebec in the following weeks....

iOS 13.4 contains references to a “CarKey” API, which will make it possible to use the iPhone and also the Apple Watch to unlock, lock, and start a car. According to the system’s internal files, users will be able to use CarKey in NFC-compatible cars, as they only need to hold the device near the vehicle to use it as a key. It will not be necessary to authenticate with Face ID, similar to what happens with Express Transit Cards....

Tim Cook has publicly commented on Apple’s work in autonomous systems before, and a new research paper from two Apple research scientists dives deeper into the company’s efforts. The paper explains how Apple is using a combination of LiDAR with other technologies for 3D object detection that represents the future. The paper is authored by Yin Zhou, an AI researcher at Apple, and Oncel Tuzel, a machine learning research scientist at the company....

Appelbaum showed what he said were leaked NSA documents in which the agency claimed to have a “100 percent success rate” at installing spyware on iPhones....

MyPhotostream is a simple, standalone Mac app for viewing your pictures from Photo Stream without having to open the mammoth of an app that iPhoto has become. This app removes a major point of friction for me, and I’m guessing I’m not alone. Open iPhoto and it’s loading your image library, checking location data, updating Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams, and who knows what else. If you’re viewing iPhoto in full-screen (as it best appears in my opinion) and you have a camera or iOS device connected, it will pull you back to a desktop view and take over the screen with a modal import prompt (even if auto-import is disabled); it’s a mess....

The Irishman has been watched by over 17 million U.S. viewers in the first five days on Netflix. Directed by the award-winning Martin Scorsese, The Irishman tells the ambitious real life story of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, played here by Robert De Niro, and his journey throughout WWII and beyond, one which ends with a life serving a crime family and interactions with the famous Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) before his unexplained disappearance....

We’ve reported on a number of big improvements coming to iOS 7 for both app developers and accessory manufacturers already. Yesterday we reported first on the new blinking and smiling detection features available to camera and photo app developers, and earlier this month told you about some of the new Bluetooth related APIs coming this fall. We previously walked you through some of the new APIs and features for gamers, but there is still a lot more coming to third-party app developers in iOS 7....

UPDATE: Ubisoft unveiled the first of the two operators earlier today (May 15, 2019). The attacking operator is called Nøkk, and will have an eerie, Banshee-like aesthetic to match her stealthy playstyle. For more details, check out Ubisoft’s announcement here. The new Rainbow Six Siege operators will be coming soon, and it looks like Ubisoft is already preparing fans for their eventual reveal with a quick teaser posted to Twitter late yesterday, showcasing the two potential playstyles of the new characters in one tantalizing image....

The next Resident Evil game is called Project Resistance, and it looks like it it could be a four-player co-op game. Resident Evil is Capcom’s best-selling franchise, having sold 90 million units as of this February. Capcom and the Resident Evil franchise have been seeing a lot of success lately. In 2018, Monster Hunter World brought one of Capcom’s core franchises to the mainstream, and Devil May Cry 5 and the Resident Evil 2 remake made 2019 a year of great Capcom games....
